We were back at the Record Office for our third session of Change Minds Norwich last Thursday where we met with Senior Conservator Nick Sellwood for an introduction to document preservation. Nick talked about how to handle the documents the group will be looking at when researching their St Andrew’s patients and showed us some interesting examples of things (and insects!) found in the archives.
We then had a short tour of the search room and an introduction to the documents that can be viewed there.
The rest of the session was given over to investigating participants’ chosen case record. There have been some interesting discoveries already, with one patient being admitted to the hospital (at least) three times. Rachel and Chris from Norfolk Heritage Centre were on hand to help with paleography, and some of the case books and hospital plans were on display in the Glass Cube for the group to look at.
Next session the group will continue their investigations into life at the asylum at Norfolk Heritage Centre.
