Timetable for Change Minds Year One, October 2015 to June 2016

Participants, carers and support workers in Year One of Change Minds join on 1st October. The programme runs fortnightly until 23rd June with gaps for half terms and school holidays. There are 15 sessions in all, 5 in each term.

Some participants from Year One will stay on into Year Two as volunteers helping a new group of participants exploring more of the archives from Norfolk County Asylum. These sessions will run from October 2016 to June 2017.

From October to December 2017 everyone from Year One and Year Two will get together again to create exhibitions of their work in local libraries, at Belfry Arts Centre in Overstrand, at the Forum in Norwich Millenium Library and at Norfolk Record Office.

The timetables for Year Two and the final term will be posted in Spring 2016.

Term 1

October to December 2015. Based at Norfolk Record Office. Sessions are usually fortnightly on Thursday mornings from 10am to 1pm. Researching the lives of people admitted to Norfolk County Asylum in the late 19th Century.

1st October. Welcome to Change Minds and tour of Norfolk Record Office.

15th October. Introduction to the 19th Century case books. How to read historic documents. Choosing who to research from the records in the case books.

Half term

5th November. Investigating the records. How to handle documents and use the Search Room. Researching the records in the case books.

19th November. Finding out more about life in Norfolk County Asylum and St Andrews Hospital in the 19th and 20th Centuries. How to search online census records in local libraries. Researching the records in the case books.

10th December. Christmas celebration and sharing research findings.

Term 2

January to March 2016 Based at Belfry Arts Centre, Overstrand. Sessions are usually fortnightly on Thursday mornings from 10am to 1pm. Creative exploration of identity in the past and now for people with mental health conditions on low income living in Norfolk. Led by poet and photographer Martin Figura.

Term 3

April to June Based at Norfolk Record Office. Sessions are usually fortnightly on Thursday mornings from 10am to 1pm. Oral history recordings, visiting Gressenhall Museum, bringing research and creativity together.

5th May Making an oral history recording
